The Packtite was originally designed for travelers as a way to treat their luggage in case any bed bugs had been picked up while staying at hotels. However, people in the midst of their own bed bug infestation saw the Packtite as something they could use to treat their shoes, purses, backpacks, books and other non-meltable items.

The question of how to kill bed bugs in items that cannot be put into a washer and dryer was a problem until the Packtite Bed Bug Oven became available. Items such as computer bags, luggage, shoes, belts, paper and file folders, can be placed in the box and left to bake, destroying any bugs and eggs that have found their way into those items.

This allows you to leave your house knowing your objects have no bed bugs on them. After bed bugs, it allows you to go antique, garage sale and thrift shopping with confidence you can heat your purchases and they will be bed bug free.

The Packtite™ is lightweight at less than 20 lbs, and portable. When set up it is large enough to hold and heat a standard luggage carry-on at approximately 3 foot long x 1 1/2 feet wide. This means you could even fit most sofa cushions in the Packtite™; however, it is important to monitor the temperature carefully, as overstuffed items, such as decorator pillows and seat cushions could take up to 4 hours or longer to reach temperatures lethal to bed bugs.

The Packtite comes with a thermostat you can read from the outside of the unit and a timer. The thermostat cord goes into the middle of what you are heating so the core temperature can be monitored. It is important that the entire contents of the Packtite reach the desired temperature to be effective. So if you put books into the Packtite, the thermostat cord would go into the middle of a book to ensure even and complete heating of objects. When the temperature reaches 120F, an hour at that temperature will kill all bed bugs. For objects such as sofa cushions, it can take up to 4 hours for the inner temperature to reach 120.
